The Cleveland Cavaliers have went into the All-Star break rolling. They have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 44-10 and have a 5 game lead over the Boston Celtics and are essentially tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder at the top of the entire NBA.
They just traded for De’Andre Hunter from the Atlanta Hawks, which by all accounts is the missing piece that the Cavs have needed to get them over the hump in the playoffs. Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley are All-Stars, which the last time the team sent 3 to the All-Star Game was 2017, yes it was that long ago, with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.
You might not have known much about the Cavs season because .. well .. nobody really talks about them. And unless you have a subscription to the FanDuel Sports Network there’s not a lot of chances to watch them play, at least from where I’m at. Nationally the Cavs are barely talked about and if they do it’s more of a side note just so the networks at least acknowledge the Cavaliers have the best record in the East.
I can already hear some say “Dude, it’s only February nobody cares about basketball until March or April” and I agree. As of late I really don’t get too excited about the NBA until the playoffs start, like the actual playoffs not the stupid play-in games where the near bottom teams STILL have a chance play in the playoffs.
The way the Cavs have played up until know deserve everyone’s attention and I’m here to say it’s time to get excited about this team. Mobley has turned into the player that people have been begging to see him turn into, Mitchell can put 50 on anybody, Darius Garland has figured out that he’s not Donavon Mitchell and has gotten back to being an All-Star point guard. Max Strus, De’Andre Hunter, Isaac Okoro, Ty Jerome, Sam Merrill, rookie Jaylon Tyson, Tristian Thompson fill out the rest of a very deep roster that is set to do some damage come playoff time.
This is the best team the Cavs have put together since 2016. In fact I think it might be a better overall team. And no, I’m not saying anyone is better than LeBron, I’m talking about better as an overall group as far as roster depth and talent are concerned.
Either way, this is the best look at a championship the Cavs have had in a long time and it’s time we start enjoying it instead of fighting each other over about what the Browns HAVE TO DO when we all know they won’t!
It’s time to, as the slogan says, LET EM KNOW!
